Well I returned home last Thursday from my trek out to the west coast, but ironically, that is when things started to get busy around here.
Jake had his baptism on Saturday morning, so we spent all day Friday getting things ready. The morning started with a fun 7 a.m. grass cutting. Talk about fun ways to wake up…I mean that is a blast. At least the stupid crabgrass is slightly less common these days. Anyway, after that and a nice cold shower, we ran out to Sams for some of the items for Saturday’s party. We got home around 1 p.m. and shortly after Dad, Susan, and Grandma arrived.
Now the highlight of Friday had to be the creation of Elizabeth’s mammoth sized cake. Five individual cakes had to be cooked (3 large, 2 small), about 9 containers of frosting were used, and a healthy portion of fondant covered the final product (which Elizabeth made herself using marshmallows and powdered sugar) – see pic on photos page.
Jake’s baptism really turned out great. The priest (Father Brian) was pretty funny. He made everything very casual and had some funny one-liners. There were two other families that were having a baby baptized, but Jake was the only boy. For about 5 min, he thought he was going to turn into “that” baby. You know…getting all fussy and causing a scene. However, with some quick work we were able to calm him back down. Overall, things went smooth.
The after party was fun; lots of family and friends. Everyone seemed to have a good time and the food turned out great (especially mega cake).
To top off the weekend, last night Jake and I got to meet Lucas for the first time (Nate and Tracy’s son). Jake and Lucas got along really well. Jake started off trying to take a bib from Lucas, and he made sure to note that was not really cool. They were able to work things out and by the end of the night they were interacting a lot more. It will be awesome to see how much they change by July 4th (the next time they will meet)!
Overall it really has been a busy few days, but I am glad to be home. I will say though that it was somewhat nice to get back to the normal grind today. That feeling has to last for at least a day or two more…right?!? Anyway, make sure you check out the new photos. Hope everyone is doing well. Nite.
